The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has notified revised film-certification guidelines for the Central Board of Film Certification. The new framework largely retains the principles of the 1991 guidelines while formally incorporating age-specific UA markers such as UA 7+, UA 13+ and UA 16+.
Films depicting narcotics will also be required to carry a warning against illicit drug use. The guidelines continue to emphasise care around glorification of violence, substance abuse, sexual violence, communal hostility and content affecting national security or public order. Filmmakers and industry bodies have been asked to familiarise themselves with the revised framework.
