GlobalFoundries and Marvell Technology have expanded an agreement to increase production capacity for semiconductors used in high-speed optical connections inside data centres. The move reflects growing demand for the networking components required to connect large clusters of AI accelerators and servers.
As artificial-intelligence models require larger computing systems, the bottleneck is increasingly not only advanced processors but also the ability to move data quickly between them. The expanded manufacturing arrangement highlights how the AI investment cycle is spreading across the wider semiconductor supply chain, including connectivity and specialised foundry capacity.
