GlobalFoundries and Marvell expand chip capacity for AI data-centre links

GlobalFoundries and Marvell Technology have expanded an agreement to increase production capacity for semiconductors used in high-speed optical connections inside data centres. The move reflects growing demand for the networking components required to connect large clusters of AI accelerators and servers.

As artificial-intelligence models require larger computing systems, the bottleneck is increasingly not only advanced processors but also the ability to move data quickly between them.
