India and Bangladesh are discussing possible dates in the second half of November for a visit to New Delhi by Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Diplomatic contacts have intensified after Rahman did not attend the recent BRICS summit in India and an earlier visit plan did not materialise.

A successful visit would be significant for a relationship facing several sensitive issues, including the status of former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina in India, border concerns, water-sharing questions and regional strategic competition. Both governments have publicly emphasised the importance of maintaining a forward-looking relationship.
