The Hill Areas Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly has held a joint meeting attended by Kuki and Naga legislators after a gap of several months. Fourteen MLAs participated, with some members joining virtually, bringing representatives of the two hill communities together on a formal legislative platform.
The meeting is notable against the backdrop of Manipur’s prolonged ethnic and political tensions. While a single sitting does not resolve wider disagreements, the participation of legislators from both communities creates space for institutional discussion on hill-area concerns and may be watched as a measure of whether political engagement can widen further.
