Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has extended greetings to the Unitarian community on the 139th Unitarian Day, highlighting the movement’s roots in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills and its contribution to the state’s spiritual and cultural life.
The regional Unitarian movement traces its history to Hajom Kissor Singh, who held the first service at his Jowai residence on September 18, 1887. Sangma said the annual observance reflects values of reason, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and service, and described the community’s history as part of Meghalaya’s plural social fabric.
