The regional party has asked for protections for minority, voluntary, educational, health and faith-based institutions as Parliament examines proposed FCRA changes.

Meghalaya’s United Democratic Party has urged the parliamentary committee examining the FCRA Amendment Bill, 2026 to consider safeguards for institutions that depend on foreign contributions for humanitarian, educational, health and social-service work. The party conveyed its concerns through a letter to Rajya Sabha MP James P K Sangma, who is part of the committee process.
The UDP said changes to the law should not unintentionally disrupt legitimate work by minority, voluntary and faith-based organisations in Meghalaya. The intervention adds a state-specific dimension to the wider debate over tighter financial regulation, accountability and the operating space available to civil-society institutions.
