Modi Opens Global Climate Dynamics Conference, Launches NGT Mobile App

NEW DELHI, Sept. 19 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the International Conference on ‘The Future of Environment and Climate Dynamics’ in New Delhi, bringing policymakers, legal institutions and specialists together for a two-day discussion on the changing environmental and climate landscape.

The conference is being organised by the National Green Tribunal. The government said the event is intended to examine emerging environmental challenges and strengthen institutional responses as climate risks increasingly intersect with development, public health and governance.

At the inaugural programme, Modi also released a mobile application for the National Green Tribunal, expanding digital access to the institution. The launch adds a technology component to the tribunal’s broader effort to make environmental adjudication and information more accessible.

The conference comes at a time when India is balancing rapid infrastructure and economic expansion with increasingly visible climate pressures, including extreme heat, intense rainfall, flooding and stresses on air, water and ecosystems. Environmental regulation and the capacity of institutions to enforce it have therefore become central to the country’s development debate.

The National Green Tribunal was established as a specialised judicial body for the effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection, conservation of forests and other natural resources. Its orders have over the years shaped disputes involving pollution, waste management, construction and ecological protection.
