Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has said the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project will not be imposed by force, amid continuing opposition from sections of affected communities. Khandu said discussions on the project and its pre-feasibility work have been underway for about two years.
The chief minister said the government is prepared to engage with residents, organisations and groups that remain opposed or have concerns. The statement comes as the project faces scrutiny over land, environmental and social impacts, making consultation and public confidence central to the next phase of the debate.
