A sessions court in Shillong has granted Khasi Students’ Union general secretary Reuben Najiar 14 days of interim bail following the death of his father. Najiar, who had been in judicial custody in connection with cases arising from an August 19 rally, has been directed to surrender before the court on October 1.
Police are continuing investigations into violence and vandalism reported during the rally, with cases registered at several police stations. The interim order is temporary and does not determine the merits of the pending cases. Other KSU leaders have also been arrested as investigators examine the incidents linked to the protest.
