Police arrested two men after an officer was struck during early-morning naka-checking in Shillong.

East Khasi Hills Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Lovish Garg was seriously injured after a scooter allegedly struck him during a police checkpoint operation in Shillong early on September 18. Police said the rider accelerated while attempting to evade the checking point at Urkaliar.

Garg was taken to hospital for treatment and two men were arrested. Police said the circumstances of the incident are under investigation and that security checks would continue. The case comes amid heightened policing in Shillong following recent attacks on government and police establishments.
