The Telangana High Court has disqualified Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender under the anti-defection law, setting aside the Assembly Speaker’s decision that had allowed him to continue after switching from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi to the Congress. Nagender was elected on a BRS ticket in 2023 and later joined the Congress.

The ruling follows petitions challenging the handling of disqualification requests against defecting legislators. Nagender had also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election as a Congress candidate while remaining an MLA. The judgment is politically significant because it directly tests the enforcement of anti-defection safeguards at the state level.
